download

SIDE B:

Serenade In Blue
Am I Blue
Blue Star
Blue Champagne
Red Roses For A Blue Lady

Editor's note: cool, soothing pipe organ in the style of blue. Blue names and sentiment. Blue cover, too, but the sentiment is anything but. It's kind of cheerful and pleasant. Something that you'd eat a nice dinner at a restaurant listening to. Luckily, we just skipped the going out part and got straight to the jams.

Editor's note: this album came with a sales promotion sheet from Kennedy that states how much he'll sell certain amounts of records for bulk prices to interested parties. I planned to post it before I got my 57th cold of the season courtesy of co-workers who will not stay home when sick. Not that anybody is really interested in that sort of ephemera but I definitely am. That's why I post these records because I like to document things. Anyway, I listened to this record at 16 2/3 as it recorded and only managed to hear a few minutes of it in its transferred speed. I'm guessing that it won't be a fan favorite. If not for the cover it wouldn't even be on here.

PERSONAL GOLF INSTRUCTIONS FROM DRIVER THRU PUTTER

By Arnold Palmer with Chris Schenkel

The Stance

download

SIDE B:

The Stance (cont'd)
The Woods

download

SIDE C:

The Irons
Recovery Stroke

download

SIDE D:

Recovery Stroke (cont'd)
Chipping and Putting

download

Editor's note: well, Arnold Palmer says the word "well"...um, well, a lot. Not that it distracts from his advice but, well, it's ridiculous. More ridiculous is how un-well I feel right now as I lie in bed with my, well, 80th cold of the season. Well, I guess that's all that I have to say about Arnie saying well a thousand times in a hundred minutes. Oh well.

RAPUNZEL

SIDE D:

Editor's note: I bought this for $2 at an estate sale and it was well worth the money. You don't find many old 78s with their original sleeve let alone in this shape. Not that it's an extreme rarity but it's scarce enough that only a few are floating around. The problem being that there isn't likely a huge audience for it. And then there's this blog. Where spoken word thrives as the main impetus of my vinyl thrust with some music thrown in. Dame May Whitty simpley tells it as it happened in fairy tale world.

DELL GARDO SINGS

by Dell Gardo

V.G. RECORDS
VG-001

SIDE A:

WHO WILL BUY?

download

SIDE B:

LA VIRGEN DE LA MACARENA

download

Dell Gardo sure belts it out on this 45. His voice was what first tipped me off that something was amiss with my ION turntable because it kept crackling like electricity when he hit the high notes. Which forced me to shelve him for a month or so since finding this gem at a Goodwill in Knoxville, Tennessee along with a second copy of Bill Park's masterpiece.

Gardo was apparently a cruise ship manager in Miami and also doubled as the talent. I could find little else about him. There is one short blurb in a 1961 Indiana paper about a folk singer with the same name performing at a school. It says he's from New York City having come from the Canary Islands and sang songs in Italian, Spanish, English and French. Sounds like our guy. He was accompanied by a Joe Longstreth on harp.

Here's his autograph on the envelope:

HAWAII...FROM REXELLA WITH LOVE

by Rexellla Van Impe

VAM IMPE RECORDINGS
800316

SIDE A:

Higher Ground (2:08)
Only Jesus Can Satisfy Your Soul (2:30)
Well Think Of That (2:23)
The Way That He Loves (2:38)
Thank You For The Valley (2:36)
Trusting Is Believing (2:37)

download

SIDE B:

Moment By Moment (2:45)
He Lives On High (2:22)
Lost (2:58)
Jesus Is Lord Of All (2:52)
The Solid Rock (1:42)
Perhaps Today (2:25)

download

Editor's note: bless this woman for being Jack Van Impe's ministry sidekick for 50 years or so but for the life of me I can't force an ounce of enjoyment from her singing. In fact, the title alone is a huge insult to me and should be to any sensible soul who contributed to their ministry. Most common people can't afford a trip to Hawaii and for her to record one there and pretend it's the listener's blessing to hear it seems outrageous. Plus, she's not even singing Hawaiian songs so it's basically an excuse for a vacation disguised as a working trip. Maybe I'm making too much of the whole thing. Nah, I'd never do that because I'm a perfectly sensible person, right? Sure, sure.

AT MARINELAND

by Red Nichols and the Five Pennies

CAPITOL RECORDS
ST-1163
MONO
1958

SIDE A:

ENTRY OF THE GLADIATORS
SINGIN' THE BLUES
(LONESOME LOVESICK) GOT TO HAVE MY DADDY BLUES
ST. LOUIS BLUES
FIDGETY FEET
SILVER THREADS AMONG THE GOLD

download

SIDE B:

MEDLEY: CAROLINA IN THE MORNING, 'S WONDERFUL, AT SUNDOWN
LASSUS TROMBONE
MY INSPIRATION
MEDLEY: GOODNIGHT SWEETHEART, SLEEPY TIME GAL, SHOW ME THE WAY TO GO HOME, GOODNIGHT LADIES

download

Editor's note: what is this? Big band? Jazz? I don't like it but I do love the cartoon dolphin leaping on the back and the live shot photo of old Flipper McDoo on the front. Actually, I think his name is Bubbles. A shite name given by humans to a magnificent animal. Of course, the same dullards who gave him the name locked him in an aquarium. All right, maybe he was injured in the wild or some other schlock story but at least if you're going to pimp the dolphin out then at least give him the betterments of life. Like calling him a whale instead of a dolphin, Bob? Right. You caught me. I don't care about the fish or this record. Or you for that matter but here's a free album in spite of all the animus.

MUSIC FROM THE BIG TOP

by Carl Stevens and His Circus Band

MERCURY RECORDS
SR-60048
STEREO
1956

SIDE A:

The Dance Of The Snake Charmer
The Mosquito Parade
El Capitan
Colonel Bogey
Bombasto
Muskrat Ramble

download

SIDE B:

The William Tell Gallop
The Invincible Eagle
The Thunderer
Semper Paratus
Asleep in the Deep
Anchors Aweigh

download

Editor's note: if this is the BIG TOP then John Philip Sousa is the ringleader clown because this sounds like a fourth of July parade and not what I know of circus music. Albeit I don't know much except for what plays in movies as I don't think I ever went to the circus. If I did I don't remember and honestly I don't give a shit if I did. The one plus to this album is that it doesn't have the distortion that it did the previous time that I recorded it and gave up. Hooray, right? Yeah, sure.

AUSCULATION OF THE HEART

by J. B. Barlow & W. A. Pocock

LONDON RECORDS
X-5873
MONO
1966

SIDE A:

First Sound
Second Sound
Third Sound
Fourth Sound
Systolic Clicks

download

SIDE B:

Systolic Murmurs
Diastolic Murmurs
Continuous Murmurs

download

I didn't plan this heart defect album for Valentine's Day but here we are in that happy coincidence. A local poet once said that love is the sublimest form of stupidity so it's justice that asculations of the heart should provide the soundtrack for the day of love. The heart beats are prefaced with some medical terminology and explanation narrated by either an Englishman or a German speaking English. Which is a perfect tie-in to a quote by Nietzsche that quipped that the only thing more boring than an Englishman is two. That explains this record perfectly. Hence, it's value here. Oh wait, this is the day after isn't it? All right, forget that preamble above.

2 GUITARS COUNTRY STYLE

by Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant

CAPITOL RECORDS
T-520
MONO
1954

SIDE A:

Hop, Skip And Jump
Ole Joe Clark
Blue Bonnet Rag
Low Man On A Totem Pole
Georgia Steel Guitar
Bryant's Bounce

download

SIDE B:

Country Capers
This Is Southland
Arkansas Traveler
Swingin' On Strings
Serenade To A Frog
Midnight Ramble

download

Editor's note: a twang doodle here and a twang dang doodle there. Speedy West isn't exactly speedy but he's definitely an experimenter in the genre. But I guess that was avant garde for the time. It sounds good but is enough to put you to sleep.

THE RIPPLING RHYTHMS OF SHEP FIELDS

by Shep Fields

DOT RECORDS
DLP 25348
STEREO
1960

SIDE A:

On The Alamo
You Are My Sunshine
Red Sails In The Sunset
Bye Bye Blues
I Found A Million Dollar Baby
Just You, Just Me

download

SIDE B:

Dream A Little Dream Of Me
Moonlight And Roses
P.S. I Love You
Moonlight Bay
Sleepy Time Gal
Drifting And Dreaming

download

Editor's note: I don't like jazz. The genre does absolutely nothing for me. Not that the music is sub par I just don't like it. Just as I loathe the farting distortion which creeps up on this record because I am ignorant of the technology. I've since corrected the issue but this recording is scarred digitally and I doubt that I'll be fixing it any time soon. But as I was saying I don't like jazz. The cover and the bubble sound effects within the disc are quite good just the same.

QUIETLY WILD

by Billy Vaughn

1968

SIDE A:

Soulitude (2:15)
Theme From Valley Of The Dolls (2:50)
Soul Coaxing (2:35)
Love Is Blue (2:45)
That Night (2:14)
Let It Be Me (2:34)

St. James Infirmary (2:35)
The Dawn Of Our Love (2:45)
Spanish Lights (2:26)
Goodbye Is Not Forever (2:45)
Gentle On My Mind (2:15)

download

Editor's note: with the hawt chick's head in the clouds I expected this to be some wild exotica or at least ethereal but it's plain old gawd-damn elevator music. Light and fluffy as a cloud when we wanted a thunderstorm of sorts. Or at least I did. I know what you want: for me to pipe down and post more records. Done.

DAN BETZER AND LOUIE TELL THE BIBLE CLASSICS VOLUME 1

by Dan Betzer and Louie

REVIVALTIME MEDIA MINISTRIES
RR-42026

SIDE A:

Abraham and Isaac

download

SIDE B:

Jonah and the Whale
David and Goliath

download

Editor's note: sometimes posting a record every day becomes a chore. Like now but at least this album is good, wholesome, scary religious stuff that doesn't fail to deliver a beheading or the threat of a sacrificial child. Thank you Jesus. Or better yet Dan Betzer and the little voice inside him named Louie which manifests itself as a talking dummy. Or was that David Wilkerson still burning a bitter hole of resentment into my heart? Never mind me, I'm just the dee jay of this lost channel prattling on.

ARIES: ALL ABOUT YOU

by Sydney Omarr

ASTRO RECORDS
A-103
1969

SIDE A:

All About Your Sign

download

SIDE B:

How The 11 Other Signs Of The Zodiac Relate To You

download

Editor's note: don't expect any hippy-dippy bullshit on this one. There's no psychadelic or love-child music interspersed with the horoscope just the straight dope from THE WORLD'S MOST RENOWNED ASTROLOGER. All right, I guess that there's a little bombast but at least there's not any hippy bullshit. Well, except for the fact that Henry Miller was kind of a libertine in his own right. At least his writings were. Okay maybe I'm confusing soft porn with hippiedom. Just listen to the record you judgmental sons a bitches.

A TIME FOR US

by The Interludes

NO LABEL
RHR 190072

SIDE A:

Mexican Shuffle
Watch What Happens
French Waltzes
By The Time I Get To Phoenix
Sweet Georgia Brown

download

SIDE B:

Overture To Orpheus
Por Favor
It's Impossible
Spanish Eyes
In The Mood

download

Editor's note: this is straight-laced electronic harmonica with no frills, gimmicks or gags. I was going to say no virtuosos either but what do I know about electronic harmonicas let alone virtuosity? On that note I'm going to let the music ride on its own. Hop on, grifters.
